Saturday 28 June: Anniversary Syphons
Join us as we mark a significant milestone in rail history: 40 years since the first two Class 37/4 locomotives entered operational service and embarked on journeys to Scotland. This commemorative excursion will feature locomotives 37401 'Mary Queen of Scots', 37403 'Isle of Mull' and 37409 'Lord Hinton' as they take us on an unforgettable journey from Crewe with additional pickups at Wigan North Western, Preston, Oxenholme and Carlisle (no dining available for Carlilse pickups).
Our route will follow the iconic West Coast Main Line, showcasing the breathtaking landscapes of the Lake District. We will tackle the renowned climb at Shap, a challenging yet rewarding experience for both locomotives and passengers. Continuing our journey, we will traverse the Glasgow South Western route, passing through Dumfries before arriving in Glasgow, Scotland's vibrant second city.
Upon reaching Glasgow, we have planned a break of approximately three hours, allowing you to explore and soak in the ambience of this historic city. Following our respite, the veteran English Electric machines will take us back south along the West Coast Main Line, where they will again face the formidable gradients of Beattock and Shap, retracing our outbound journey to Crewe.
Join us for this unique celebration of railway heritage and enjoy the power and performance of these iconic locomotives against the backdrop of Scotland's stunning scenery. This is an opportunity not to be missed for anyone with a passion for rail travel and history.
